Potty Training – When to Do It?
One time, a friend of mine asked me online for some pointers in potty training her child which was almost tw years old. Sad to say, I couldn’t give her any. I didn’t really potty train my kids. My boy just wened himself at age 3. He just didn’t wanna wear nappy. Some parents would do it as earl as 5 months old. Some babies are even potty trained even before reaching his first year. I personally don’t believe in training them too early. There are reasons of course why some parents wanna wean their kids from wearing nappy at a younger age. I respect them for that.
With my girl… after turning 3, she’s still wearing nappy. Two days after she turned 3, I asked her whether she could do without a nappy. She was amused by the idea but she said yes. So on the first t no-nappy day, she went to the toilet on her own. She even asked me. Mommy, am I good or not? Are you happy or not? I wanna see your smiling face, Mommy. LOL. She was just so excited she’s not wearing nappy anymore. It’s so stress free when both parties are ready to do things.
For me, the best time to do potty training is when they’re ready and when parents are ready to do so. I still put nappy for my girl at night when she sleeps because I don’t want her to shi-shi on the bed. When she’s taking her afternoon nap, though… I just lay two thin mattresses on the floor for her to lie down on. Those are easy to wash especially if accidents happen. So far, no accidents yet (knock on the wood). I am glad.
